9 Totally Ludicrous Things Young People Should Be Aware Of – According to Old People

As we age, our perspectives and opinions on certain things may change. One person asked older people on Reddit what they find totally ludicrous, and the answers are entertaining to say the list. Read on to find out and let us know if you agree with anything on the list.

One person said “Promises an employer makes.” Basically you can expect any promise made by an employer to be broken.

Another person shared, “I work at a pawn shop. About 95% of stuff that ends up being stolen goods was stolen by friends or family.”

Realizing Everything is Ludicrous

“As an older person I’ve found that the older you get, the more you realize that everything is rubbish.”

Many others who came to the same conclusion chimed in. “I’m not even 20 yet and I’ve realised that everything is absolute nonsense.”

Financial Advice from Online Video Creators

One person said you shouldn’t listen to “financial advice from anyone that posts videos as a job online.”

Others agreed and noticed that most financial advice online revolve around investing in cryptocurrency, dropshipping, or selling books on Amazon.

Dating Advice

“99% of dating advice.”

“I used to get advice from friends and it was hurting my last relationship so I stopped listening and the relationship got better. However, we still broke up in the end. My current relationship is my longest and best one and I have gotten zero input from other people. The only advice you need is practice good communication and how to improve on it if you’re struggling. Don’t get advice about the actual relationship itself.”

Caring About Others’ Opinions

“Caring about what others think of you.”

Others don’t completely agree. One person said, “It depends. If everyone around you thinks that you are a terrible person, then maybe you should take that as a sign to work on yourself. There are a lot of bad people around who think that they don’t owe anyone common decency because they ‘don’t care what others think of them’.”

Multi-Level Marketing

“Multi-level marketing, no matter what they call it – network marketing etc.”

“Rules about how to attract relationships focused only on men or women (“The Rules” etc).”

Business Advancement Rules

“Rules about how to advance in business (“48 Laws of Power”).”

Others pointed out that the book, ’48 Laws Of Power’ is not meant to be business advice. One person pointed out that “48 Laws of Power isn’t a book about how to advance it business. Surprisingly, it’s a collection of pretty entertaining essays on historical use of power. I think marketing did this book a disservice. It is an entertaining/interesting read, but not actionable life advice.”

Payday Loans

“Payday loans. I seriously don’t understand how payday loans are legal. I used to work for a collections agency and probably 30% of our cases came from defaulted payday loans. Somebody taking out a $200 payday loan because they’re in a bad spot and then of course can’t pay it back gets slapped with interest rates that would make a loan shark blush, and before they know it that $200 mistake can be well over a grand. It’s sad really.”
