Chess is a game that has been played for centuries, and while it has remained relatively unchanged, it doesn’t hurt to change the rules up every now and again. Because it’s International Chess Day, Here are 7 new rules that some people have suggested to add to chess.
No Turns
“There are no turns. Both players move simultaneously.”
Adding Captured Pieces to Your Side
“If you take a piece from your opponent, you should be able to add it to your side of the board (up to 2).”
Witches
“Remove two pawns at the edge of the board and replace them with two witches. They move diagonally if they aren’t capturing a piece or straight two spaces if capturing.”
Teleportation
“You get one free teleportation for your king and one more each time you take out a pawn. You can’t have several unused teleportations at any given time: if you take a pawn and already have one teleportation, it doesn’t add up.”
Archer Piece
“An archer piece that can move diagonally, adding new dimensions to the game.”
Jester Piece
“Jester. Same move set as the queen but cannot attack. It can, however, swap locations with another piece adjacent to it on any of the 8 directions. You can swap with either yours or your enemy’s piece.”
Eagle Piece
“A bird. Probably an Eagle that can take out any other pieces anytime randomly.”
