Sarcastic Answers To ‘How To Save?’ Highlights Millennial Financial Struggles
Saving money can be a challenge, especially for Millennials who are often dealing with student loans, low-paying jobs, and high living costs. In a recent discussion, millennials answered the question: “How to save money?” and some of the answers highlight the pain of being a Millennial.
Make More Than You Spend or Spend Less Than You Make
“Either make more than you spend, or spend less than you make. You can do it too, trust me.” It may seem obvious, but the key to saving money is to either increase your income or reduce your expenses.
Invest in Education
One person is regretful that the only way he is able to save is to spend years on education. “Had to get a masters degree to get a high paying job. Only way I’ve been able to save and it’s absurd it took doing that to actually save money.”
Struggle to Save
“I’m not able to. Went to school, got a bachelor’s and work in IT for a college. Did everything right.” For some millennials, saving money is simply not possible due to low-paying jobs and high living costs.
Buy Second-Hand
One person said the only way he is able to save money is to buy second-hand. Many millennials understand this as buying used items becomes more mainstream and accessible through Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist and the like.
‘We Don’t’
Another person said, “We don’t lol.” Although the answer has a lighthearted tone, the sense of pain from the financial woes of Millenials can be felt by this simple answer.
Start a Savings Account
A person, who is more optimistic than the others said, “Definitely start a savings account, write down a specific amount to put into it, how long it will take, and work hard at sticking to it.”
Invest in High-Yield ETFs
Another said sarcastically, “Throw it into a high yield ETF for dividends and slowly lose that money.” This sarcastic comment shows how wary millennials can be after living through the Great Recession.
Find Humor in the Situation
“That’s a funny one,” was the answer of one person who thinks the question is more humorous than real seeing that many millennials are currently struggling to live comfortably.
