Millennial Woman Quits Job With No Savings, Then Spends Joint Life Savings On Yoga Studio
A couple’s joint savings account is a crucial aspect of their financial security, especially in times of emergency. However, what happens when one partner decides to use the savings for a personal investment without consulting the other? This is the situation one couple is facing, and it has resulted in a heated argument.
The Joint Savings Account
A man we’ll call ‘John’ begins sharing his frustration. John and his wife have been married for 9 years and have a son together. When they got married, they also created a joint savings account as an emergency fund. “Over the years, we’ve saved up a pretty big amount of money, which I really appreciate since I have a lot of anxiety when it comes to financial stuff.”
Growing Interest In Yoga
John continues and said his wife started going to yoga classes regularly a few years back. He said that she has started to give hints that she wants to teach yoga. “I assumed she meant as a hobby and therefore I made sure to be supportive whenever she would talk about it.”
Money Disappears
When John logged into their online bank account to transfer money, he sees that two thirds of their money has disappeared. “I am of course confused and asked my wife about it as soon as she gets home,” John said.
The Purchase of a Yoga Studio
At this point, John’s wife tells him that “she has used all this money to buy a yoga studio, fully furnished with mats and all.”
Argument Begins
At this point, John’s frustration has reached a tipping point. “I started yelling at my wife, asking her why she would use our joint savings for this irresponsible purchase.”
Wife Admits She Quit Her Job
Trouble continues. John’s wife admits to him that she used their savings because she quit her job to become a full-time yoga instructor. Because she quit her job, she said she didn’t have enough money herself to buy the yoga studio. At this point, John has began yelling and calling his wife irresponsible
Wife Becomes Angry
John’s wife said that he is being mean for yelling and not talking through it like an adult.
Others Share Their Opinions
Many people agree that this is wildly irresponsible. One person said, “That is a wildly inappropriate, and ignorant thing to do on your wife’s part. I would be livid if my partner quit their job, and wiped out two thirds of our savings to buy a business without even consulting me first. What an unbelievably irresponsible, and self-centered thing to do.”
