Mom’s Heartbreak: Mean Girls Mock Her Son’s Shoes
A parent has shared her dilemma about her son’s shoes being fake and the bullying that followed. She found a great dupe of Converse shoes on Amazon and bought them for her son. However, some girls at school noticed that the shoes did not have the star on the side, and made a nasty comment.
Fake Shoes
The mother, who we’ll call ‘Lanie’ is facing a dilemma about her son’s shoes being fake. While she was unable to afford the real Converse shoes, she found a great dupe on Amazon. However, her son was subjected to bullying when some girls noticed that the shoes did not have the star on the side.
Feeling Terrible
“Apparently some girls seen my sons didn’t have the star when he lifted his pant leg and they made a nasty comment so now my son who before did not care they weren’t real won’t put the shoes on. I feel terrible. I still can’t afford the shoes,” Lanie said.
Seeking Advice
Lanie is seeking advice on what to do about her son’s shoes. “What should I do?” Lanie asked. “On one hand I feel like wearing the shoes will subject him to bullying and on the other hand I feel like this isn’t something that kids will latch on to. They’re nice shoes.”
Don’t Get Fakes
One person offered advice saying sometimes, it’s better to get generic clothes than buying an obvious replica. “In my experience, it’s worse to get a replica of a well-known brand shoe than just getting a random pair from Walmart. I don’t have any actual advice other than sometimes it’s better not to even try.”
Try Thrift Stores
Another acknowledged how difficult the situation is. “It’s a difficult situation for you and him. I remember wearing “adidas” from Payless that didn’t have the right amount of stripes. I definitely got teased for it. I recognized that my parent did what they could. As I got a bit older and wanted specific brands I had the option of getting one brand pair or a few of the others. That being said they were still expensive and my parents couldn’t afford that until I was in high school. Maybe try thrift stores.”
Try Second Hand Online Stores Like Poshmark
Someone else suggested going on Poshmark. “If you want to get him a pair, Poshmark is where I find my kids converse. I almost always can find gently used ones for cheaper than brand new. Occasionally stores that normally carry them do sales as well. And thrift stores typically get a decent amount of them.”
