“He Spends Hours On His Phone” – Wife Is Worried That Social Media Is Deteriorating Her Relationship
A woman is wondering if she is overreacting over her husband’s phone use.
Phone Usage In Today’s Society
In today’s digital age, it’s common for people to be glued to their phones. However, when phone use starts to impact relationships, it becomes a cause for concern. Recently, Jane* has shared her struggle regarding her husband’s phone obsession.
His Obsession
Jane, who is 25 years old, has a 1-year-old son and a husband who is 30 years old. Her husband is so obsessed with his phone that he needs to be on it at all times, even when he is interacting with their son or outside in public. He never puts his phone down, and the woman feels neglected and lonely. Even when her husband is home from work, he spends most of his time on his phone, and she has to fight to get his attention.
Scrolling Through Videos
Jane notes that he’s not cheating on her. “He’s just watching YouTube or scrolls on apps, (Reddit, Instagram and Facebook). He never hides his phone from me and willingly will show me what he’s doing, so I know he isn’t messaging anyone else. ”
Poor Interaction With Son
Another thing that concerns Jane is the way he interacts with their son. “Our son wants nothing to do with him and gets bored so he wants to play with me because when he does spend time with [my husband], it’s always with his phone in hand and little attention paid to [our child]. I also have to force [my husband] to interact or play blocks with [our son] or he won’t do it.”
Relationship Slipping
Jane is distressed because she thinks her relationship with her husband is slipping. “I have to fight to get between his phone and him,” Jane said. She says she sometimes just messages him because it’s easier to communicate with him this way. Our relationship is slipping because of this phone,” Jane said. “our relationship is better over message than in person at this point. Even when he is home from work he isn’t present with us.”
She notes that when he gets home, he “walks through the door on his phone, flops on the couch and the phone doesn’t go away until he goes to sleep, which is 4-5 hours after he gets home.”
He Claims It’s A Way To Cope
Jane’s husband claims that he still pays attention and listens when needed, and his phone is a way to cope through the day. However, Jane feels that it has turned into an obsession that has created separation anxiety.
Others Sympathize With Jane
Many people sympathized with Jane. One person said. “In my opinion, you deserve better. He’s neglecting you and your son. Just because he isn’t cheating when he’s on the phone doesn’t make it less toxic to ignore you and your needs, both as a spouse and as a partner when it comes to raising your child. Getting affection over message is such a sad thing. Of course you feel alone.
Another Relates To The Husband
Another is ashamed to admit that he acts very similarly to Jane’s husband. “I’m shamefully similar to your husband. You’re 100% justified and he needs to get this fixed as soon as possible.
