“They’re Not Responsible Enough For A Dog” Woman’s Clever Tactic To Avoid Getting A Pet For Her Children
One woman angers her own parents and her husband for going to extreme lengths to prove that her children cannot take care of a pet.
Her Genius Plan

In an attempt to ensure that her family would take proper care of a pet, one wife devised a trial run before allowing a dog into the home. “I finally agreed on three conditions,” she said. “One: smaller than sixty pounds, we do not need a mastiff. Two: a non shedding dog only. None of us are allergic, I just don’t want extra work. Three: for sixty days in a row they had to collect all the garbage from all the trash cans in the house and put it in the big garbage bin.”
They Struggle To Be Consistent

Her plan worked. “The longest they have made it so far is two weeks,” she said. When her parents attempted to intervene, she was prepared. “I sent them a link for a dog walking service in my area,” she said. “It is very reasonable. I said if they wanted a say in the dog decision they had to agree to set up an account with that company and that I could call up the company for help whenever their precious, perfect, grandchildren and son-in-law forgot to take care of the dog.”
Grandparents Say She’s Being Unreasonable

Her parents were livid and said she was being unreasonable. However, the woman did not budge. “Unless they were willing to pay to include their opinion in the decision, [their opinion] did not matter,” she said firmly.
Husband Agrees, Defeated

In the end, her husband realized that the kids weren’t responsible enough to have a dog. “My husband has finally seen that the kids aren’t responsible enough to have a dog,” she said. “He said we needed to tell them. I said that ‘we’ was one too many people. I wasn’t the one who sided with them when I had said I knew they were not ready.”
Praised For Brilliant Parenting

The wife’s wise decision to give her family a trial run before getting a dog was well received by the public. “Dogs are a long term commitment,” one comment read. “Has your husband taken into account that your kids will be in school, extracurriculars, dating, etc.? Depending on how old your kids are they may even move out. Who will be taking care of the dog then?”
Another applauded the wife for her brilliant plan, saying, “This was brilliant planning.”
A third echoed the sentiment, saying, “A+ parenting and life lessoning!”
She Had To Parent Her Husband

Still others pointed out the need for the wife to parent her husband as well. As one commenter put it, “Sadly she also needed to parent her husband.
Grandparents Might Gift A Dog For A Birthday

The wife’s plan also served as a great reminder about the responsibility that comes with pet ownership. As one commenter put it, “great tactic to show them the responsibility that comes with a pet. Also, beautifully handled with the grandparents. Watch out, I could see grandparents buying someone a dog for a birthday.”
