Expecting Mom Puts Her Foot Down on Hospital Visitors
A mother-to-be is flabbergasted to hear that her mother is demanding to bring her boyfriend to the hospital when she gives birth.
The Backstory
A woman, who we’ll call ‘Emma’, is expecting her first child.
“I am expecting my first child in a little over a month. My mom wanted to fly out and be here for the birth and to be at the hospital with me. My dad died 11 months ago and three months ago mom told me she had started seeing someone.”
Emma Surprised That Her Mom Is Dating
“It was a little bit of a surprise but I told mom if she was happy I would be happy for her, but asked her to give me some time before trying to include him with me. She hesitated before saying yes and I know she was likely disappointed that I didn’t want him included right away.”
The Dilemma
Emma had previously asked her mother to give her some time before introducing her new boyfriend into her life. However, when her mother suggested bringing him to the hospital for the birth of her grandchild, Emma drew the line. She expressed her discomfort with having her mother’s boyfriend present during such a vulnerable time and suggested introducing him during a future get-together.
The Fallout
Emma’s decision did not sit well with her mother, who threatened to stay in a hotel with her boyfriend and still attend the hospital. Emma stood her ground and informed her mother that she would not be welcome if she brought her boyfriend to the hospital. Emma’s mother accused her of denying her the chance to meet her grandchild. She also guilted Emma about her future relationship with her boyfriend.

Emma received support from her grandfather and aunt, who agreed with her decision. Her mother, on the other hand, felt that nobody was happy for her chasing her happiness again.
Emma said, “After speaking to me she [Emma’s mother] talked to my grandpa and my aunt who are her dad and sister and they sided with me and said mom should understand where I am at with this. I woke up this morning to a text from her that everyone was on my side and she guesses nobody is actually happy for her chasing her happiness again.”
